چکیده

The measurement of the heats of formation of organo-metallic compounds presents, usually, a difficult task to the experimental thermochemist. Thus the method of combustion in a conventional bomb-calorimeter, although it has been applied to a number of metallic alkyls in recent years! and yielded valuable results, is nevertheless not entirely satisfactory. The difficulty is that complete oxidation of the organo-metallic compound is not always attained, and the metal may be left, after the combustion, in a partially oxidized state, as a mixture of free metal, oxides, and possibly carbonate and carbide. The development of the rotating-bomb technique offers a solution of this major difficulty, and successful studies have already been reported by Scott, Good and Waddington2 on the combustion of lead tetraethyl, and by Good, Fairbrother and Waddington'' on manganese carbonyl. One can therefore feel confident that in due course precision measurements of combustion heats of organo-metallic compounds will be made. However, it is desirable that methods other than that of combustion should be investigated, not only to provide independent checks on combustion results, but also to develop reaction calorimetric methods. Several typical reactions of organo-metallic compounds are potentially suitable for heat of formation measurements, but comparatively few such thermal studies have as yet been made. Some of these studies are briefly discussed below.

Metal–carbon bond energies for adsorbed hydrocarbons from calorimetric data

Single crystal adsorption calorimetry (SCAC) is a powerful new method for measuring adsorption and reaction energies. Particularly for hydrocarbons, where little or no information is available from either experiment or theory on welldefined surfaces, this method can provide crucially needed information. Assignment of the measured calorimetric heats to the appropriate surface reaction yields dir...

Development of a Method for measuring Reactive Oxygen Radicals Levels In Vitro and Study the Effects of Vitamin C and E on Radical Production Reaction

Background: Free radicals and reactive oxygen species(ROS) are the most important factors in formation of oxidative stress reaction. Now, radical damage has been suggested to contribute to a wide variety of diseases such as Alzheimer, atherosclerosis and cancer. Transition metal ions in the presence of the various biomolecules produce these active compounds. The aim of this study is introducing...

Recycling and Reuse of Organo-sulfur Compounds from Barrels of Natural Gas Contaminated with Mercaptan Odorant

Natural gas is odorized by trace amount of mercaptans and organic sulfides to be recognized by individuals, in case of gas leakage. These materials may pollute the environment particularly in injection station at local gas plants. Therefore, removal of sulfur compounds from the remaining odorant in barrels is essential. To remove the residual portion of mercaptans and alkylsulfide mixtures diff...

Heats of hydrolysis of amide and peptide bonds.

The thermodynamics of amide and peptide bonds is of fundamental importance in the study of the synthesis and breakdown of proteins in biological systems. One of the necessary steps in acquiring significant thermodynamic data in this field is the determination of the changes in heat content accompanying the formation or rupture of such bonds in compounds of known structure. We have accordingly u...

Synthesis and Characterization of the Energetic Compounds Aminoguanidinium-, Triaminoguanidinium- and Azidoformamidinium Perchlorate

Aminoguanidinium perchlorate (2, AGClO4) was formed by the reaction of aminoguanidinium bicarbonate (1) with aqueous perchloric acid solution. Triaminoguanidinium perchlorate (3, TAGClO4) was synthesized by nucleophilic attack of aqueous hydrazine solution on aminoguanidinium perchlorate under release of ammonia. The new and highly explosive azidoformamidinium perchlorate (4, AFClO4) was formed...
